Geraint Davies — professionally credited as Geraint Wyn Davies. Geraint was born in Swansea, Wales, in 1957, the son of a Congregationalist preacher and a schoolteacher. The family lived in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, before emigrating to Canada when Geraint was seven, and he was largely educated there, attending Upper Canada College and later the University of Western Ontario, where he studied economics before dropping out to pursue acting.
He made his professional stage debut in Quebec City in 1976 and went on to work extensively in theatre on both sides of the Atlantic, including two seasons back in Wales with Theatr Clwyd, touring Britain in 'Enemy of the People' and 'Hamlet' — the latter earning him a Regional Theatre Best Actor award — plus seasons with the Shaw Festival and the Stratford Festival of Canada, where he has returned repeatedly over a career spanning five decades.
Davies is best known internationally for playing the vampire-turned-police-detective Nick Knight in the cult Canadian television series 'Forever Knight' (1992-96), across 70 episodes. His other genre television credits, all referenced in the original FamousWelsh entry, include 'Airwolf' (1987), in which he played Major Mike Rivers; 'Dracula: The Series' (1990-91), as Klaus Helsing; and 'RoboCop: The Series' (1994) and the mini-series 'RoboCop: Prime Directives' (2001). He later played Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in several episodes of 'Murdoch Mysteries'.
Davies became a United States citizen in 2006, sworn in by then Associate Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and continues to divide his career between film, television and the stage, including a celebrated run in the title role of 'Cyrano de Bergerac' at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., for which he won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
