Berwyn Jones, sportsman (White City, Ossett Church) with a Welsh connection!

Getting the best of Bob Hayes. Olympic champion and fastest man in the world.
Connection: Born in Wales?

I shall never forget a UK Relay Team beating the Americans at the White City. Berwyn had the last leg and was up against the awesome power of Bob Hayes. Berwyn, his little legs going like the clappers, kept Bob behind him and I would swear even gained a cm or two.

What a great man. Are there any photos on record of Berwyn? Best wishes Jenny.

I was at that White City meet and was amazed to see our Berwyn the famous Birchfield Harrier beating Bob Hayes. When did Berwyn pass away? I would like to write to his relatives, does anyone has an email address?

Thank you for the lovely comments, not only was he a great sports man he was also a wonderful husband, father and grampie.

Dad passed away January 2008 after a long illness, we take much joy from the fact that he achieved so much in his very active life. We love watching the video from white city!

I used to visit Berwyn regularly at his home in Bradford when I was about six or seven years of age, he was good friends with my dad who was the minister at Ossett church where Berwyn and his wife use to attend. We went to watch Berwyn when he plated for Bradford Northern in the mid to late 60's
