Haydon Morris, sportsman with a connection to Wales (Barry)

Haydon Morris

His rugby career started in Bangor Normal College and later, Mountain Ash, Cardiff, Welsh Academicals and the Barbarians. His first international was played against France in 1951 and four years later against Ireland in Cardiff, where he scored the second of the four Welsh try's that brought a 21-3 victory. In 1955 he toured South Africa with the British Lions and scored a hat-trick of try's in his debut and six further tries in seven matches. Unfortunately injury curtailed his career.
Connection: He taught me maths and rugby at school in Barry in the early 1960's and was still incredibly fast then. His side-step was devastating!
