He was born in Cardiff, Wales. His father was from Dubrovnik and his mother was Irish. He represented Great Britain in Swimming and Water Polo and has won four gold medals competing at six Olympic Games between 1904 and 1928. He is the most successful Croat at Olympic Games ever.
