Ian isn't from Welshpool at all. Born near Oswestry (in England!) but closely associated with Llanymynech, at least as far as his golf is concerned.

Acording to BBC Wales Ian said "In all my travels nothing has annoyed me more than to be asked what part of England Wales is in. It is now part of my job to make that question extinct. " which leaves little doubt where his loyalties lay - diolch Ian.

Ian Woosnams mother's family are Welshpool people. His granparents lived off Salop Road. His gandfather was a leading vocalist in St. Mary's Church Choir.

Ian spent a lot of time in Welshpool as a youngster, visiting his grandparents and his cousins. One uncle was a town councillor, another introduced Ian to golf; his cousins and their families well known locals. One relative, a rising star, represents Wales in badminton.
