Tommy Farr, sportsman with a connection to Wales (Tonypandy)
Tommy Farr
Boxer who fought the famed Joe Lewis for the World Heavyweight title.Connection: Born and brought up in Tonypandy.

He was one the few boxers to face Lewis and stay on his feet for the whole fight!

He claimed to be from Tonypandy. Was a publican in Brighton right up to the time of his death.

Fresh Prince, Tommy did not fight Joe Lewis for the middle weight title he fought for the heavyweight title. Tommy also made some seventy-eight records and a very good singer he was as well, as a boxer.

Tommy Farr was my great uncle :) and I couldn't be more proud. Never got to meet him because he died six days before I was born.

I was a RAF apprentice at Cranwell and Halton 1939 to 1941. I have a vague memory of Tommy Farr being one of our physical training instructors.

Tommy Farr was my great grandfarthers brother and would very much like to talk to other relatives to get an insight into his life, I didn't know much about him as my grandad past away when I was young.

I have just met somebody related to the late great Tommy Farr, as I am a Farr I wondered how I could find out if I was related. I have heard said within my family that we are related to a branch of the tree. My father is Kenneth Farr who lived in Wiltshire as did my grandfather although they lived in Ireland in the 50's.

I read somewhere that Tommy Farr's father came from Ireland. I live in County Cork and my surname is Farr. I would be very interested to know what Tommys' links are to Ireland and from what area his family came from and are any remaining relatives still in that area.
