Andy Scott was born on 30 June 1949 in Wrexham, North Wales, where he picked up his first guitar as a teenager after a family friend left an old instrument at the Scott household. His first gig came in November 1963 at St Peter's Hall in Wrexham, playing with a local group called The Rasjaks, and by his late teens he had built a solid reputation on the North Wales club circuit.
In late summer 1970 Scott auditioned for The Sweet in front of Brian Connolly, Steve Priest and Mick Tucker, replacing guitarist Mick Stewart. As lead guitarist, co-writer and backing vocalist, he helped drive the band through their run of glam-rock hits, including 'Blockbuster!', 'Ballroom Blitz' and 'Fox on the Run', turning them into one of the defining singles acts of the 1970s.
Following the death of bassist Steve Priest in June 2020, Scott became the last surviving member of Sweet's classic line-up, and continues to tour and record under the Sweet name, still returning regularly to Wrexham, the town that shaped his earliest musical ambitions.
