Ian Saynor

Film, Television and Stage Actor

Ian Saynor is a British film and television actor. Long-standing records on this site state that he was born in Caernarfon, North Wales, to Welsh parents and is himself a Welsh speaker; an exact birthplace has not been independently confirmed from the sources checked for this update, but his extensive, decades-long career working in Wales and in the Welsh language is very well documented.

His best-known screen role is Morgan, opposite Katharine Hepburn, in the 1979 television film 'The Corn Is Green', adapted from Emlyn Williams' play. The same year he played Merak in the Doctor Who serial 'The Armageddon Factor'. He also played Adam Lockett in the sitcom 'The Cuckoo Waltz' and appeared in 'The District Nurse'.

Saynor has worked extensively for BBC Wales and S4C over many years, and has been involved in numerous Cardiff and London stage productions. In the 2018 bilingual drama series 'Hidden', he played the father of the lead detective, Cadi John. He now lives in the Cotswolds and continues to act.

I first saw Ian Saynor in 'The Mallens' and admired his ability and personality. It may have something to do with the name we share, although my only link with Caernarfon is that the boy I went to sea with lived there. I personally hope to see more of Ian.
