Peggy Cummins was born Augusta Margaret Diane Fuller in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, on 18th December 1925. Her Irish parents, who lived in Dublin, happened to be visiting Wales when a storm prevented their return home, which is how she came to be born in Prestatyn rather than Ireland.
Cummins began her acting career as a child in Dublin before moving into British and Hollywood films as a young woman. She is best remembered for her performance as the trigger-happy Annie Laurie Starr, a bank-robbing femme fatale, opposite John Dall in the 1950 film noir 'Gun Crazy', directed by Joseph H. Lewis. The film was later selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1998, recognised as culturally, historically and aesthetically significant.
She also starred in the 1957 British horror classic 'Night of the Demon' (released in the United States as 'Curse of the Demon'), directed by Jacques Tourneur, playing opposite Dana Andrews in a tale of black magic and the supernatural.
Peggy Cummins died on 29th December 2017, eleven days after her ninety-second birthday, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, following a stroke.
