Dannii Minogue, born Danielle Jane Minogue on 20 October 1971 in Melbourne, Australia, is a singer, television presenter and actress. She is the youngest child of accountant Ron Minogue and dancer Carol Ann Jones, and the younger sister of singer and actress Kylie Minogue.
The Welsh connection comes through Dannii's mother. Carol Ann Jones was born in February 1945 in Maesteg, Mid Glamorgan, the daughter of Dennis and Millie Jones. In 1955, aged ten, she emigrated to Australia with her family under the assisted-passage scheme widely known as the "Ten Pound Poms". Dannii's maternal grandmother, Millicent Riddiford, was born at Llangynwyd, near Maesteg, and Dannii's great-grandfather, George Morgan Riddiford, married Margaret "Megan" Hughes at St Michael's Church, Llangynwyd, in January 1920.
Dannii began her career as a child performer on the Australian variety show Young Talent Time, before landing the role of Emma Jackson in the soap opera Home and Away in 1989. She left acting to concentrate on a pop career, releasing a string of singles and albums in Australia and the UK during the 1990s and 2000s. She later built a prominent career as a television talent-show judge, sitting on the panel of The X Factor in the UK from 2007 to 2010, Australia's Got Talent, The X Factor Australia and The Masked Singer Australia.
Though raised in Australia, Dannii and her family have spoken publicly about their Welsh roots in Maesteg, a heritage she shares with her sister Kylie.
