John Owen-Jones, born 5 May 1971 in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, is a Welsh musical theatre actor and singer, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished leading men the West End stage has produced.
He was educated at Glan-y-Mor Comprehensive School and was a member of Llanelli Youth Theatre before training at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, where he graduated with a BA (Hons) in Acting in 1994.
Owen-Jones is best known for two of musical theatre's most demanding leading roles. He played the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera from 2001 to 2005, becoming the longest-running Phantom in West End history, and went on to perform the role almost 2,000 times by 2010 - more than any other actor in the show's West End run. He is also the youngest actor in West End history to play Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, a role he took on in 1998 at the age of 26 and later reprised twice on Broadway.
He has been married since 1999 to Teresa, a primary school teacher.
