James James, musician with a connection to Wales (Pontypridd)
James James
Son of Evan James, wrote the music of the Welsh National Anthem.Connection: From Pontypridd.

It's a shame Dylan Thomas didn't appreciate the sentiment.

He was actually born in Hollybush, near Blackwood, where his father lived before they composed the national anthem.

The James men were my mother's uncles, I think possibly on her father's side, though she never said. We did not learn Welsh as children unfortunately, but I have at last taught myself the words of the national anthem in Welsh. Not bad for an old girl of sixty-five!
