Grace Williams, musician with a connection to Wales (Barry)

Grace Williams

Music graduate of University College, Cardiff. Continued education at the Royal College of Music in London with Ralph Vaughn Williams and Gordon Jacob. A friend of Benjamin Briton who was influential in obtaining commissions for her. A very well-known composer of her time, she scored for movies and published arrangements of folk songs.

She was in turn a schoolteacher and college lecturer and in 1946 accepted a post with the BBC. However, at the end of the forties she returned to Barry for health reasons. She spent the rest of her life there. She devoted herself to composition and to teaching and broadcasting. Grace died in 1977.
