Speaking the first line aired of ITV's 'Coronation Street' in 1960. Character of Elsie Llappin: 'Now the next thing you want to do is get a signwriter in. That thing above the door'll 'ave to be changed. ' She also entertained the troops during the second world war. . Radio plays such as 'Welsh Rarebit', 'Pink String' and 'Sealing Wax'.Connection: Born in Neath on 16th October1906. In 1952 she restored the Palace Theatre, Swansea and re-opened it with her own repertory company, 'The Maudie Edwards Players'. Welsh speaking until the age of four.

Married twice, Ralph Morgan and Colonel Bill Foulkes. Died in London on 24th March 1991.

My late father Ronny Lloyd was Maudi Edwards' nephew. He was from Llantwit Neath
