John Stephen "Steve" Jones (born 1944) is a Welsh geneticist, born in Aberystwyth. He built his career at the Galton Laboratory and University College London, becoming Head of the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment at UCL.
Jones is widely known outside academic circles as a prize-winning popular science author and broadcaster, best known for his book and television series "In the Blood," which explores what genetics can and cannot tell us about human inheritance, confirming some popular beliefs about heredity while debunking others. He has written extensively on evolution and genetics for a general audience across a long career of public engagement with science.
