Euros Childs was born on 16 April 1975 in Freshwater East, a coastal village in Pembrokeshire, and was educated at the Welsh-medium school Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Myrddin in Carmarthenshire. He is best known as the founder and frontman of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, the influential Welsh band formed in Carmarthen in 1991, for whom he wrote or co-wrote most of the songs, sang lead vocals and played keyboards. His sister, violinist Megan Childs, was also a member of the band, and their father Lynn played on several of its recordings, including the acclaimed album Barafundle.
After Gorky's Zygotic Mynci split in 2006, Childs launched a prolific solo career, releasing albums in both English and Welsh, including the all-Welsh-language Bore Da. He has continued to release new material almost every year since, much of it self-distributed on a pay-what-you-can basis through his own label, National Elf. In January 2019 he joined the Scottish band Teenage Fanclub as keyboardist and vocalist, touring and recording with them while continuing his solo output.
Childs has remained closely tied to Wales and the Welsh language throughout his career, recording much of his later work at home in Pembrokeshire and singing in Welsh on many releases. He is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and enduring voices to have emerged from the Welsh independent music scene of the 1990s.
