Michael Richard Lewis was born on 17 August 1977 and grew up in Pontypridd. In 1991, while still at school, he formed a thrash band called Aftermath with friends, and went on to play in the Welsh hardcore band Public Disturbance, which released a string of records in the late 1990s.
He was a founder member of Lostprophets, starting out on bass before moving to rhythm guitar. The band became one of the biggest British rock acts of the 2000s, with best-selling albums including Start Something and Liberation Transmission, which reached number one in the UK in 2006.
