Sir Michael Moritz is a venture capitalist and former journalist, long associated with Sequoia Capital in California, where he was for many years a partner and a former member of Google's board. His technology investments have included Google, YouTube, PayPal, Yahoo!, eToys, Zappos and Apple.
He was born on the 12th of September, 1954, in Cardiff, Wales, into a Jewish family; his parents, Ludwig Alfred and Doris Moritz, had fled Nazi Germany. He was educated at Howardian High School in Cardiff before going on to Christ Church, Oxford, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Moritz began his career as a journalist, co-writing a history of Chrysler before joining Sequoia Capital in 1986. His investment record made him the number-one name on the Forbes "Midas List" of top technology deal-makers in 2006 and 2007, and he has appeared on the Time 100 list, with the Sunday Times ranking him among Wales' wealthiest people.
