Cliff Ashton was capped seven times for Wales. Before playing for Wales he played for Cardiff, Newport and Aberavon as a magnificent outside half.

In the 1960's I was in college in Cardiff with a boy from Cwmavon who said that when Cliff played at the Talbot Athletic ground the club was called Aberashton, is this true?

Joxerbrains it is true that he was called Aber Ashton. I looked through paper cuttings and found it.

I watched Cliff Ashton play for Aberavon and Wales. He was obviously my hero as my name is Alun Ashton son of Bryn Ashton who also played for Cwmavon, Aberavon . My grandfathers name was Silas Ashton uncle of Trevor Ashton, who was Cliff's father. My grandfather Silas took me to see Cliff play every week. He played out half to Tony O'connor and many other famous Aberavon men.
