Christopher Williams

He was commissioned by King George V to paint the investiture of Edward, Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle. He painted portraits of the Rt. Hon. Lloyd George and Sir John Rhys. During WW1 he painted the Welsh charge at Mametz Wood, it now hangs in the National Museum of Wales.
Connection: He was born in Maesteg in 1878 and studied art first in Neath and later at the Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy School.

In post-war years and until his death he did lots to stimulate interest in art in Wales. He was a frequent adjudicator at the National Eisteddfod and was a member of the arts committee for the National Museum of Wales.
