James Monroe

James Monroe was the fifth president of the united states from 1817-1825. Monroe fought in the revolutionary war in many important battles, including Trenton, Monmouth, Brandywine, and Germantown. He was at valley forge with George Washington. He served as minister to France.
Connection: Born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, in 1758. His mother, Elizabeth Jones Monroe, was of Welsh heritage and an educated woman for her times.

James Monroe museum is located in the historic city of Fredericksburg, Virginia. There is a Welsh festival that celebrates James Monroe?s Welsh heritage.
