In 1872 he moved to Ukraine, to the province (Oblast) of Donetsk and founded an ironworks at the headwaters of the Kalmius river. He helped to improve and expand the Russian rail road. The town's pre-revolutionary name was from his own surname, Yuzovka. After the Revolution it was called Stalino, changed in 1961 to Donetsk.Connection: John Hughes, Welsh industrialist from Merthyr Tydfil.
