He seems to have played a lot of coppers in his career including the brilliant Fox in 'The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries'.

William was a child actor and played Anthony Steel's son Tim Payton in Ealing Studio's 'West of Zanzibar' and 'Where Vultures Fly' during the 1950's. He was the menacing mandrel in Doctor Who's 'The Sun Makers' in 1977 and an even more menacing German officer in 'Enemy at the Door' in 1978. William was nominated for an award for his performance in 'Cribb'. Quite strange this marvelous actor ended up as a bit-part in UK ITV's 'Heartbeat'! Never mind William, I love ya!

I may have a family connection with William Simons. My great uncle was Alfred Simons Denville I live close by to his Denville Hall for old actors in Northwood Middlesex. His sons Charles Simons Denville and his son Barry Simons Denville who passed away in 2007 all came from Wales all were actors, Terrence Denville is a member of my family. Its also interesting that my name has been changed from Simons to Simmons.

In 1944 my brother and I were evacuated from Middlesex to mumbles and stayed with captain and Mrs Simons, William's parents. He was four years old and his party-piece was "Incy Wincy Spider climbing up a spout". They had a beach hut at Langland Bay and we spent happy days there with picnic lunches. A Mrs Winston with a small son named Howard used to come each morning to clean the house. I often wonder if he grew up to be the boxer 'Howard Winston'. I've followed William's career with interest.
