John Guest John guest was the only surviving son of Thomas Guest an iron-master, he took over his fathers company in Merthyr in 1807. John Gwyn Jeffreys He was one of the greatest conchologists (someone who studies shells) of the 19th century. His main set of five books is much sought after as a collector's item. His collection became the world's greatest for the time. He helped pioneer deep-sea dredging. He corresponded with men like Charles Darwin and was involved with a number of scientific associations.
Born into a long-established Welsh family. The Jeffreys boast many men involved with local affairs, military and legal practice, as well as this scientific family.
