Sir Tom Jones Still
going strong, Tom Jones can count on four decadesof showbiz experiance every time he sings! Major show business presence since the 1960's. Tom Jones has had a string of hits over the years from 'It's not unusual' in 1965 to the recent 'Mama told me not to come' with the stereophonics. Married at just sixteen Tom supported his young family as a builders labourer during the days while at night he worked the clubs and pubs, waiting for a break. Originally billed as Tommy Scott, he and his backing band the Senators took every opportunity they could to 'be seen'. Eventually it paid off and after a change of name to Tom Jones and the Squires things started to happen. An appearance on the TV show Ready Steady Go! sent sales of his record 'It's not unusual' booming, the rest as they say is history. He even appears briefly in the hit movie MARS ATTACKS with Jack Nicholson, Danny Devito, Michael J fox and many other top Hollywood stars! He was a friend and confidant of Elvis, spending many years in the US playing glamourous venues (Las Vegas etc). Confidently managed by his son Mark, Tom is now recording with today's young stars like Robbie Williams and the Stereo's. Far from the glittering halls of Las Vegas, Tom still remembers the folks back home, he attended the opening of the POP FACTORY in Porth, Rhonnda in 2000! On March 29th, 2006 Tom became Sir Tom Jones (Woodward), knighted in reward for his services to music over the previous forty years. The story was reported in over 250 news papers and magazines in the US alone! connection: Born Thomas Jones Woodward in Pontypridd, his 'home town'. It's fair to say Tom has never forgotten his Welsh roots and has been a fine example of Welsh success on the 'world stage'.
